Badge and Betrayal: Maine Police Officer's Shocking Arrest
A dramatic incident unfolded in Maine when Jon Luke Evans, a reserve police officer with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on July 25, 2025. Evans, a Jamaican national, was taken into custody for allegedly attempting to unlawfully purchase a firearm, which triggered an alert to ATF agents.
*The Incident Unfolds*
Evans lawfully entered the United States on September 24, 2023, but overstayed his visa, violating the terms of his admission. He was supposed to depart the U.S. on October 1, 2023, but failed to board his flight. ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston, in partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, arrested Evans in Biddeford, Maine.
*ICE's Response ICE ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde expressed concern over Evans's employment as a police officer despite being an undocumented immigrant. "The fact that a police department would hire an illegal alien and unlawfully issue him a firearm while on duty would be comical if it weren’t so tragic," Hyde stated.
