FORT WORTH RESIDENTS WANT A POLICE CHIEF WHO LISTENS AND UNDERSTANDS THE COMMUNITY
FORT WORTH RESIDENTS ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW POLICE CHIEF WHO POSSESSES KEY QUALITIES THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO EFFECTIVELY SERVE AND PROTECT THE COMMUNITY. BASED ON THE PROFILE OF THE OUTGOING CHIEF NEIL NOAKES, HERE ARE SOME OF THE KEY CHARACTERISTICS THAT RESIDENTS MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR IN A NEW POLICE CHIEF, Sabrina Bell spoke with Up And Down Magazine As a resident of Fort Worth, I was happy to hear that the process would be transparent. I took that to mean we would get to know the candidates. While I understand the city manager will choose the police chief, it would be nice to get to know these candidates. They all seem to have the qualifications, but in order to determine who is the best fit for Cowtown, we would need to hear more from these candidates. I hear that there have been private meetings. That feels very “good ole boys club” to me. Well advertised, public meetings would be preferred. -Sabrina Ball (Indivisible, COMMUNITY-ORIENTED LEADERSHIP*: NOAKES' FOCUS ON BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY AND REDUCING CRIME THROUGH COMMUNITY POLICING HAS BEEN WELL-RECEIVED BY RESIDENTS. A NEW CHIEF SHOULD CONTINUE THIS APPROACH.
- *INNOVATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING*: THE NEXT CHIEF SHOULD BE ABLE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX AND DEVELOP CREATIVE SOLUTIONS TO ADDRESS THE CITY'S PUBLIC SAFETY CHALLENGES.
- *STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS*: EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IS CRUCIAL FOR A POLICE CHIEF. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO RESIDENTS' CONCERNS, ARTICULATE THE DEPARTMENT'S VISION, AND FOSTER COLLABORATION WITH OTHER AGENCIES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS.
- *COMMITMENT TO OFFICER WELL-BEING*: NOAKES HAS EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING CARE OF OFFICERS' HOLISTIC WELL-BEING. A NEW CHIEF SHOULD CONTINUE TO PRIORITIZE OFFICER HEALTH AND SAFETY.
- *ABILITY TO ADAPT TO A GROWING CITY*: FORT WORTH IS EXPERIENCING RAPID GROWTH, AND THE NEXT CHIEF SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADAPT TO THE CHANGING NEEDS OF THE CITY AND ITS RESIDENTS
